https://community.msguides.com/d/183-july-2019-from-where-do-i-get-the-office-2016-professional-plus-64-bit-iso contains a post that was answered to my satisfaction, that I then extended because I was unable to install.
So I'm picking it up from here.
The setup would progress, slowly, to 51%, then lock up. Computer would be fine, but the setup froze twice. First time, after half an hour or so, I got an "Error Code 30015-25 (-1610612703) ." Second time, I just killed the install after 10 minutes of no progress.
So, first, is there "residual junk" from the two partial installs that I should clean up again? And how do I do this? Office 2016 does not show up in the Add or Remove Programs list of software (this is Windows 7 by the way).
Second, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_install-mso_win10-mso_o365b/error-code-30015-25-1610612703/6d09cc82-710a-4edf-9eac-94f394ad33c9 addresses something I've not tried to get around this error, which is stopping the print spooler, stop the computer and start it again, and supposedly the install just picks up automatically. Credence to that? I can't imagine an install just starting again. Last night, I manually launched the setup a second time, and it started from 0%, not from where it left off.
But elsewhere, perhaps in msguides, I have read about a configuration xml file (can't remember where the file is stored, or how it is invoked) that can be set up to exclude components of the Office install. And really, all I want it Word and Excel - maybe Power Point.
Can someone explain how this works?
