IN the market, Office 365 download from Microsoft, will at least get Office 2016 after complete install Office 365.

Because upgrade of Office 2016, still need a bit time to download. So, unless your internet speed is too slow, I can't see any chance you cannot get Office 2016 shown up after complete install Office 365.

So finally, the solution is,
Office 365 can be activated using many methods
1, Office 365 batch file
2, Office 2019 batch file
3, Office 2016 batch file.

But still it is better to use latest standalone version of Office which is Office 2019 than using Office 365.

The best is install Office 365, upgrade to Office 2019. This is the only method can keep on upgrade to future Office version. If you install standard alone Office 2019, when new version Office coming out, you need to uninstall office 2019 before install new version of Office version.

Office 365 KMS key batch file cannot activate standalone Office 2016 or Office 2019.

I copied the volume licensed key XQNVK-8JYDB-WJ9W3-YJ8YR-WFG99 and when Office 365 asked for the product key, I pasted the key there and it was showing,

" This product key is for the volume licensed version of Office 2016 which isn't currently installed. Contact your administrator for more information."

But when I use the batch file to install the same key, Office 365 converts to Office 365 base Office 2016.

It's not funny. If put in KMS key in activate page work, there are no point write a lot of batch file.

KMS key only work with batch file.

When install Windows or Office, come to activation page, close it. After finish installation, run the batch file, done.

KWong Yes you are right. There is lot of hard work in making the batch files.

If you on Windows 10, office 2019 is automatic come with update.

Office 365, after update to Office 2019, don't use office 2019 batch file to activate, it will become stand alone office 2019 afterwards.

Only use Office 365 activate, will keep on get all future new feature and upgrade to new version of office.
